Disney Trip 2009 - Day 1

December 6, 2009
Our Disney Trip had finally arrived. We met Harry, Margaret and Micah at the Hardees in Greencastle and we were on our way. The plane ride went off without a hitch and we landed in Disney. The kids did excellent with riding and took turns sitting with their four grandparents. We rode the Disney shuttle to our resort hotels and got freshened up. Then we all met back up at Epcot for dinner and fireworks. The kids stood in line and met Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Pluto, and Donald. They were so excited. Of course, there favorite was Goofy, but that was always there daddy’s favorite too. :) Christian was not so sure of the characters, but once he saw Ava skip up to them and hug them, he was not far behind. The one time, Mickey reached out for a high five and Christian ran behind Ava. Ava looked back at him and then turned around and gave Mickey his high five. Christian went running up to do the same. He was not so sure, but once he saw his sister was fine, he decided he couldn’t be left out. Micah and I were very worried he would be so scared of the characters, but man did he prove us wrong. He had as much fun as Ava with the whole Disney experience. So sweet. (the funny thing, was once we got home, Meeting Donald Duck was a high light for Christian. He would say, “see Donald duck, funny!!”)

After we met and got our pictures taken with the main crew, we shuttled ourselves onto the Epcot Space ride inside the big ball. Nana and Pappy were in front, then Harry and Margaret and then Micah and Christian. I got to ride with Ava, which turned out to be quite an experience. It is a slow moving ride and very interesting, if you can understand the language. When you first get into your cart, the touch computer screen tells you to pick a language. Ava jumps in and pushes Portuguese, and that was what we read and heard the entire ride. It was really funny. No matter what I tried, I couldn’t get it to change back.

To finish off the night, we went to the water side to see the reflections of illuminations and fireworks. They were so awesome. The crowd was crazy, but really worth it. Then we all headed back to our resorts to get some rest before the next day when we were planning on hitting “Magic Kingdom.”

Our Hotel Rooms were really cool.  We were in Pop Century and it had a section for each decade.  Ours was the 70s decade and our hotel had huger thank life platform shoes, a twister game for the kids, old telephones and huge foos ball game / statue.  There was a three story tall Mickey Mouse statue standing outside our hotel area too, right as you went up the elevator.  We said our hotel resort had enough activity going on and things to do, we could have spent a few days of vacation hanging out there.  We definitely would go back to that hotel again.

We had adjoining rooms with mom and dad so our kids spent the night over in Nana and Pappy's room.  We all slept good that first night, after a very long day of travel.
